Hand-washing has been shown time and time again to be one of the most effective ways to control the spread of infection.
Nowhere is this more important than in hospitals, where patients are particularly vulnerable to the risks posed by unpleasant Healthcare Acquired Infections (HAI), which are also expensive to treat and result in longer hospital stays.
Therefore, it is very important to provide adequate high-quality handwashing and cloakroom facilities throughout the building. When space is at a premium and easy cleaning essential, the Medstor Integrated Panel System (IPS) is the ideal solution.

Uniting form and function
Medstor IPS units are an effective way to conceal the plumbing services and systems behind hospital washbasins. This supports infection control procedures by reducing the surface area bacteria can settle on.
The space-saving boxed-out design, which extends just 250mm from the wall, also has an attractive, ergonomic, aesthetically-pleasing appearance, enhancing the healthcare environment. It is 2,400mm high and comes in two widths - 650mm and 750mm.
This attention to design detail, something for which Medstor is known throughout the healthcare industry, extends to colour choices. Hospitals can select from a wide range of colours to complement patient rooms, wards or any other commercial washroom setting.

Healthcare-specific design
As regular splashing is inevitable with a unit of this type, water-resistant material must be used in its construction. Medstor IPS units come in:

Kits include:
Each option fulfils the requirements and regulations contained within the latest version of HBN 00- 10 Parts A, B and C, which adds sustainability and infection control to healthcare IPS requirements.

Design for compliance with HBN 00-10 Part C – Sanitary assemblies. Supporting patient safety
This area of healthcare furniture is subject to Health Building Note (HBN) 00-10 Part C - Sanitary assemblies, which outlines the policy and performance requirements for sanitary assemblies used in healthcare facilities.
HBN 00-10 Part C sets out the essential standards of quality and safety necessary for compliance with its guidelines. It allows choice in the materials and methods of construction, provided they satisfy the performance requirements outlined, that is to say, they are compatible with the intended function and lifespan of use.
The guidelines emphasise the importance of the control and prevention of healthcare-associated infection (HCAI), not only in relation to the safety and wellbeing of patients and staff, but also the resources consumed by potentially avoidable infections.
HBN 00-10 states, “It is important that the design of the building facilitates good infection prevention and control practices, and has the quality and design of finishes and fittings that enable thorough access, cleaning, disinfection and maintenance to take place.”
